My visit to Sri Lanka was arranged having contacted and spoken with John Polly, David Hyatt, Vinodh Wickremaratne and lastly, Ifthar Rizvi who operates a web site for Sri Lankan Loco Nuts.

My project can be seen on: http://www.srilankanlocos.com/images/michael/m7.html

My UK travel agent was Nick Gaskill at travel-vogue.co.uk who has first hand experience on the island.

Sri Lankan Airlines was chosen, flying from LHR terminal 4.

Walkers tours provided the taxi air port collection service in Sri Lanka.

Vinodh arranged all my trips and access to the places you normally cannot access so this was a good part of my Adventure to this Island that was once called Ceylon.

Tours / outings included Train Trips and we got to some of the more unusual places:

  • Train to Fort and Columbo Sun/7th
  • T1 railcar to Puttalam return Tue/9th
  • Train to Galle, return by car Thu/11th
  • Train to Kandy tour and return Sun/14th
  • Train to Avissawella, return by car Tue/16th
  • Visits to trainspotters café,
  • Dematagoda, Bridge works,
  • ELS workshops, Maradana, Fort station,
  • Ratmalana Works Tour.
  • Columbo Museum, A Temple that has it’s own collection / museum of collectables. A road roller and a rail inspection car. I Also saw a steam roller and a steam lorry etc. old abandoned railways routes etc plus many extras
